Indian athletics team for Paris Olympics 2024
Eight seasoned athletes who impressed at the Tokyo Olympics return for another shot at glory in Paris. Tokyo Olympians Neeraj Chopra (javelin throw) and Annu Rani (javelin throw) headline a strong Indian track and field team for Paris. They'll be joined by several familiar faces from Tokyo: Avinash Sable (3000m steeplechase), Asia's top contender Tajinderpal Singh Toor (shot put), and the ever-reliable 4x400m relay team members Muhammed Anas (making his third consecutive Olympic appearance!), Amoj Jacob, and Subha Venkatesan.
New stars are also eager to shine. Jyothi Yarraji (hurdles), Abha Khatua (shot put), and Parul Chaudhary (steeplechase and 5000m) will be making their Olympic debuts. Notably, Chaudhary is the only athlete competing in two individual events, showcasing her impressive versatility with an Asian Games gold medal in the 5000m and a silver in the 3000m steeplechase.
India boasts a powerful presence in race walking. National record-holder Akshdeep Singh leads the men's 20km race walk alongside Vikash Singh and Paramjeet Singh Bisht. Meanwhile, Priyanka Goswami, a Tokyo Olympian (race walk), will team up with Suraj Panwar in the exciting new mixed marathon race walk event.
Neeraj Chopra, India's 26-year-old Olympic and World Champion javelin thrower, leads a strong track and field team selected for the Paris Olympics. The team includes 11 talented female athletes and will compete at the Stade de France stadium between August 1st and 11th as per press announcements from the Atheltics Federation of India (AFI).
Changes to the Olympic Program:
A mixed marathon race walk relay has been added for the first time.
The men's 50km race walk has been removed from the program.
